ARTIST BIO

Michelle is a Canberra-based  photomedia artist and emerging photojournalist.  She studies photojournalism at La Trobe University.

Michelle was born in Bendigo, Victoria in 1975.  She studied Arts at The University of Melbourne and University of Manchester, majoring in creative writing: poetry

Michelle was awarded the Elwood Community Bank Linden Postcard Award 2015 for her work, The Ricegate Incident. The work is on dispay at the Linden New Art Gallery until late November 2015

Michelle's work shifts between portraiture, media and the exploration of abandoned places, architecture and street photography.

Michelle develops reciprocity with her subject quickly, which allows her to go beyond capturing a decisive moment to lifting out the playfulness, intimacy or joy of the characters, some of whom prefer side stage more than centre stage. She has a unique ability to build a strong photographic relationship with human and animal subjects and can often be found rolling around on the lawn or in farm yards creating images with a variety of furry or feathered creatures. Michelle also enjoys creating quieter images as she looks to show the beauty she sees in the things that people leave behind.

As well as the Linden New Art gallery, Michelle's artwork is included in private collections in Australia and Europe. She is available for commercial and commissioned work.

In 2016 Michelle was a finalist in the Bowness Photography Prize and the Josephone Ulrick &Win Schubert Phtography Award.

Her work was also highly commended in the Goulburn Art Award 2016.
