Pompon En Saulieu #761 by Roderick Skinner

Features

ARTIST NOTES: François Pompon , famous animal sculptor, was born in Saulieu on May 9, 1855. The training he received, first in Dijon in 1870 at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, then in Paris in 1875 encouraged him to devote himself to portraiture, and only later to works of animal life.
François Pompon said: "It is the movement that determines the form, what I tried to render, it is the direction of the movement. In the Jardin des Plantes,
I view the animals when they walk ... What is interesting is the animal that moves. "I do the animal with almost all the furbelows, and then, little by little, I eliminate in order to keep only what is indispensable ".
